Some employees still want to wear masks. Here’s how to support them
As companies settle into their masking and COVID-19 policies, comms pros are still searching for the best way to communicate mask messaging to their employees.
Last week, the Transportation Security Administration updated its COVID-19 guidelines for airlines and other public transit, effectively voiding the prior mask mandate. The update occurred after a U.S. district court judge in Florida struck down the CDC’s transportation mask mandate.
Major airlines moved immediately to adjust their own policies — but two made sure to mention one-way maskers, or people who choose to mask when others are unmasked, in their messaging.
“In keeping with our commitment to creating a welcoming environment for everyone who travels with us, customers and team members may choose to continue to wear masks at their own discretion,” wrote American Airlines in its press release.
A press release from Delta Air Lines echoed the sentiment, going further to mention how customers and employees alike should be patient with each other as mask messaging continues to evolve:
