Refining benefits messaging through cross-departmental collaboration
How one pharma giant designed a framework for its wellbeing comms that pulled in comms, HR and managers alike.
Communicating about an enterprise-wide transformation effort takes a coordinated effort across departments.
During Ragan’s Employee Experience Conference in Nashville last month, Porter Novelli Account Supervisor Cade Fleming shared a case study about a global pharmaceutical company that decided to launch a holistic wellness framework in 2023 focusing on all the key pillars of wellbeing—physical, emotional, social and financial.
“Why would such a large company go ahead and dive into all the effort that it takes to do such a thing?” asked Fleming. “Well, they firmly do believe that their success hinges on their employees being able to bring their whole selves to work every day. So prioritizing total health and well being for their employees was simply key to their vision as an enterprise.”
This effort was echoed by employee feedback, with 90% of the company’s 100,000-people-strong employee population agreeing that they valued wellbeing, too.
But it took a global workforce footprint that included corporate offices, manufacturing facilities, field-based and supply chain teams, contractors and consultants, alumni networks, you name it.
“The approach they took to make this a reality was employing key stakeholders to carry out the change in tandem with leadership,” Fleming explained.
