
Fredie Carmichael
Vice President of Corporate Affairs - Georgia Power
Fredie Carmichael serves as Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Georgia Power where he leads the company’s strategic branding and overall communication with internal and external audiences, including advertising, creative and production services, digital and social media strategy, employee communications, media relations and corporate sustainability. Prior to this role, he served as Vice President of Corporate Communication at Southern Company Gas, where Fredie led public and media relations, employee and customer communications and creative, digital and social media initiatives for the four natural gas distribution companies that serve more than 4.3 million customers across four states. He began his career with Southern Company in marketing at Mississippi Power, followed by various roles in economic development and communications at Southern Company Gas, Georgia Power and Southern Company. While at Georgia Power, he was responsible for managing the communications needs for the Vogtle 3 & 4 expansion project that included communications with the co-owners, government officials, local and state leaders and the site workforce. With more than 22 years of communication experience, Fredie joined Southern Company after more than a decade in journalism, working as both an investigative reporter and executive editor for daily newspapers in Florida and Mississippi. Fredie earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Mississippi State University and completed a master’s certificate program in economic development from the University of Southern Mississippi. He also completed the Executive Leadership program from Cornell University. He holds several leadership positions with company, industry and nonprofit organizations – including serving on the board of directors for Black Girls Golf, a nationwide organization based out of Atlanta that is focused on growing access to the game of golf; and most recently being elected to the board of directors for Junior Achievement, an organization focused on inspiring and preparing students to succeed in a global economy. Fredie and his family live in Fayetteville, where he is active in the community, serving as a volunteer coach for local sports organizations, and where he previously served on the board of directors for the Fayette County Youth Basketball Association and the Flint River Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
