With around 228,000 employees worldwide, Microsoft’s communications function consistently has its work cut out. As the organization navigated multiple waves of layoffs over the past year, ensuring its messaging is properly measured and refined remains the strongest way to manage reductions in force at scale.

During Ragan’s Employee Experience Conference in Nashville last month, Melanie Jackson, Microsoft’s director of employee experience and culture on the customer experience and success team and Microsoft Senior Business Program Manager Carly Nelson shared how they are measuring strategically along the employee lifecycle.

“We have to be thinking about, how do we take our employees through this time that a lot of people are kind of still reeling from and now have these super high expectations?” Jackson began. “All the while, we want them to have their best possible experience as an employee and as a Microsoft advocate.”
