Citing research from psychologist Daniel Goleman, an infographic from Quid Corner explains what makes each type of leader tick. “Visionary” managers are often “inspiring” and “empathetic,” but they tend to struggle with implementing their grand ideas. “Coaches,” meanwhile, are steady, on-task motivators.

The graphic also describes “affiliative bosses,” who focus on creating harmonious connections in the workplace. To work with them effectively, the infographic advises plenty of direct, honest feedback.

There’s also the “democratic boss.” These sorts of managers emphasize collaboration and universal participation. To get along with a democratic leader, speak up in meetings, be a good listener, and don’t quash dissenting opinions.
