USA Today’s magazine seeks stories about active lifestyles
The busy travelers who read USA Today on the run are now getting an occasional dose of active lifestyle news along with the latest headlines. Open Air, a quarterly magazine distributed with Friday editions of the newspaper, debuted in March and will appear three more times in 2008.
Jack Curry, interim editor of Open Air as well as executive editor of USA Weekend, says he’s on the lookout for story ideas about destinations, people and products that speak to travel, health and fitness. The glossy Open Air is aimed at women and men “with an active lifestyle and with a sense of adventure, who obviously travel a lot,” says Curry.
Travel and outdoorsy magazines figure big on newsstands, but Curry says Open Air will stand out for the uniqueness of its approach—and of course, for the fact that it’s got a built-in audience of 2.5 million. The magazine will publish on May 2, September 5 and November 7; editors will consider upping the frequency in 2009.
