During Ragan’s Internal Communications Conference at Microsoft HQ last month, Microsoft Senior Storyteller and author of “Brand Storytelling” Miri Rodriguez opened her workshop by inviting attendees to engage with AI tools like ChatGPT and create audience-specific, empathetic and engaging narratives that apply our creativity as storytellers to the process of prompting, iterating and refining the drafts we receive.

“Prompting can enable connection at a very human level,” Rodriguez began, sharing a short AI-generated poem that captured the essence of collaboration with AI to humanize comms:

“In Seattle’s vibrant space, we meet, where ideas flow and visions greet…”

Rodriguez set the stage by unpacking the transformative role of generative AI in reshaping storytelling for internal and external communications with hyper-personalization.

“It can do in 30 seconds what would take us weeks,” she said.

As storytelling becomes more industry-specific and driven by empathy, Rodriguez also explained how AI can empower us to create stronger mission-driven content tailored to cultural and geographic sensitivities.
