VIDEO: Country Financials’ Kathleen Davis on finding the ‘why’ in your leadership style
Leadership lessons and what new leaders need to be aware of in their own journeys.
Ragan’s Council Career Conversations, a recurring video series within Ragan’s Communications Leadership Council, allows members to share the tactics that made them great leaders and the lessons they’ve learned about their careers.
Kathleen Davis, corporate communications director at COUNTRY Financial, told Ragan how one of the most instrumental leaders she encountered on her leadership journey showed her the way by providing her a seat at the decision-making table, even as a newer employee.
“She allowed me to observe and contribute to the discussion,” Davis said. “That sparked some interest for me and helped me envision myself in a leadership role and what that might involve.”
Davis also advised new leaders on what to prioritize on their leadership journey, telling them to focus on the “why” behind their leadership style and tactics.
“What’s really driving and motivating you as a leader?” Davis said. “Being in leadership comes with a lot of responsibility. You’re responsible on the good days, and you’re also responsible when you’re facing challenges. Challenges will come, and remembering your ‘why’ helps.”
