VIDEO: DHL’s Erin Maggied shares the connection between curiosity and leadership
Lessons in how to lead by asking questions and how to pilot through tougher times.
Ragan’s Council Career Conversations, a recurring video series within Ragan’s Communications Leadership Council, gives members the chance to share the tactics that made them into great leaders and the lessons they’ve learned about their own careers.
Erin Maggied, chief of staff at DHL Supply Chain, told Ragan that new leaders should begin their leadership with a sense of curiosity that encourages them to dive deeper into their roles and organizations.
“Stay curious and ask questions,” Maggied said. “Question why things are done a certain way or if they’ve always been done a certain way.”
Maggied provided some words of advice for leaders regarding what they should prioritize in the months and years ahead.
“Talk about the hard things,” she said. “What’s important to employees isn’t necessarily where an organization stands on a certain issue, but how they feel the organization can support them if they’re impacted.”
Maggied also touched on the importance of strong leadership in hectic times like our current election year.
“It’s not necessarily about taking a stand on a certain issue but more about providing resources so people get the support they need when they need it,” she said.
