Speeches have become “overblown”: Veteran Australian speechwriter Graham Freudenberg, who penned speeches for many Labor party leaders from the 1960s onward, now thinks political leaders should write their own words, reports the Sydney Morning Herald. “Everyone wants to write a Gettysburg Address these days, and the quest for one-liners leads to examples like ‘the axis of evil’ being used to justify a thoroughly damaging policy,” says Freudenberg. “
