Communicators rally to contribute ideas on how to douse a ‘flamer’
Chances are, most bloggers you interact with are respectful—but occasionally there’s one who is hostile and rude. How should you respond?
Rather than formulate a reply by herself, Christine Wilcox, a communicator for a grocery chain, turned to her colleagues at MyRagan.com for help. Her situation sparked a discussion and about 20 recommendations, one of which she chose. So far, it looks like her company has come out unscathed.
A religion and politics blogger with Examiner.com contacted Wilcox for a comment on a post he was writing about “anti-Christian” companies that don’t reference “Christmas” in their advertising.
Wilcox recounted it this way: “He said, ‘I would like to have some kind of response from you and/or your company on this matter. Absent a response will be taken into account when the article is written. With a response, I will give you the opportunity to review and vet the article BEFORE it is sent,’ which I consider to be blackmail. He closed it with ‘It’s your turn.’ “
