VIDEO: Goodwill’s Anita Guerrero on instrumental mentors during her career journey

Ragan’s Council Career Conversations, a recurring video series within Ragan’s Communications Leadership Council, allows members to share the tactics that made them great leaders and the lessons they’ve learned about their careers.
Anita Guerrero, vice president of corporate communications and brand management at Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin and Metropolitan Chicago shared a story about how one of the first comms leaders she ever worked for helped shape her perception of the field.
“That CEO inspires me to be my best as a leader to this day,” Guerrero said. “I learned from the experts in the room to truly value the input from the team to make the vision even better.”
Guerrero also told Ragan about her ideas on what habits make for great comms leaders.
“Listen and observe first,” she said. “Be calculated in what you share, but be balanced and brave in sharing something when you know it’s the right thing to do. The path to growth for me is all about balance.”
