Comms strategy advice to bolster influence, authority and cooperation
Make sure to communicate with employees consistently, clearly and on consistent platforms.
Develop a dedicated resource page or single source of truth. Create a space that’s dedicated to COVID updates. Include practical resources for social justice, parental issues, navigating health care, and other pressing, relevant issues employees are facing right now.
Use these chaotic times to streamline your approval processes (and dump crappy jobs). Your comms department is not a deli counter (or at least it shouldn’t be). You have the license and agency to push back and pare down that approval process, but you must be bold enough to remove meddling, ancillary cooks from the comms kitchen. Also, use your data to scrap old jobs or campaigns that aren’t adding value.
Make an inclusive content calendar. Including HR, IT, PR, marketing and other relevant departments prevents redundant efforts and unnecessary inbox competition.
Smash down departmental siloes. Provide a space for department leaders to explain what their team does and how they work with other departments.
If you can’t track a piece back to your goal, don’t do it.
