AT&T, like many technology-focused companies, has an interest in inspiring children to pursue studies in STEM topics—science, technology, engineering, and math. Now a video for one of its efforts, Kids Coding Camp, has won first place in the “Marketing Video” category of Ragan’s 2016 Employee Communications Awards.

AT&T’s signature philanthropic initiative, AT&T Aspire Accelerator, partnered with its Big Data organization to host a Kids Coding Camp last August for employees’ children ages 6 to 12 at AT&T’s Plano, Texas office. The youngsters took part in coding exercises and a mini-hackathon that sparked their imaginations and gave them a taste of the kind of work their parents do every day.

The organization produced a highlights video. By posting the video to AT&T’s intranet, it served as an internal marketing tool to promote the notion that Big Data at AT&T is central to employee engagement efforts and cultural transformation. Key sponsors and partners were interviewed for the video along with employees whose children participated in the camp.

In addition to exposure internally, the video was chosen by the external communications team for publication on the external website along with the official AT&T YouTube channel, where it has been seen nearly 2,500 times.

Congratulations to Randy Garza, Preston Bradford, Vince Pai and Jenna Whitmire for their innovation and creativity in sharing with employees and external audiences an event that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.
