3 tips for more mindful manager comms

How managers can make the most of their place in the organization to cultivate a culture of connectivity.

The workplace has undergone transformational changes over the past four years, as in-person work went remote, and remote work went hybrid for millions. Through each shift, the role of the middle manager has shifted drastically.

During a fireside conversation, Peppercomm SVP Danielle Montana and Janella Escobar, communications and brand leader for DPR Construction’s Southeast market, unpacked how managers can lean into their growing importance by taking a player-coach approach with their reports to enhance wellbeing and become a strategic lever to the business.

“Managers are in a different spot in the hierarchy than they once were, and they are balancing several different roles,” Montana began.

“This group is in a unique position where they can enact that on-the-ground change. They’re close enough to the ground where they can speak and understand the junior employees, any issues that they’re having or concerns, and they can communicate those back up the ladder when they need to. But they’re also responsible for executing and driving business value.”

Montana emphasized Peppercomm’s outsized focus on responsibly and sensitively applying humor in the workplace. Everyone who joins the agency is required to do stand-up comedy training.
